"I've been just vibing and getting a fat dom and pump for ages but weights aren't reallyyyy going up."
That was me in early 2024. I was in the gym consistently, eating well, and doing what I thought I was supposed to do. I'd already transformed my physique once — I'd lost significant weight and built a solid foundation. But somewhere along the way, my aimless "bro sessions" stopped working.
To try and fix it, I swung the pendulum completely the other way. I started training to absolute failure on almost every set, pushing harder and harder, completely frying myself. But instead of growing, I got nothing back. The progress that used to come easily had stalled entirely.
"I think I'm plateauing on pretty much everything at the moment."
April 2024I didn't know what I was doing wrong. I just knew something wasn't working.
"I just think I don't look as good as I did a year ago."
I'd tried everything. More volume. Different splits. Pushing myself to absolute failure on every exercise.
When I first started working with Dariusz in 2024, I was sceptical. I'd been around the block enough to know that most coaches just give you a generic program and disappear. But I gave it a shot.
What made the difference was the detail. He didn't just tell me what to do — he explained the science behind it. He talked about fatigue management, RIR, and how training to failure on every set was actually holding me back. He started tracking my progress properly and adjusting things as we went.
"I check in with Dariusz almost daily with how my workouts are, any questions I have about form or the exercises. Tweaking the programme ever so slightly so that I'm happy completing each workout."
Once I started following his programming properly, the numbers started moving again.
Squats: From 120kg for 7 to 135kg for 4.
Military Press: From 55kg to pushing 77.5kg.
Shoulders: Started getting compliments in the gym.
"I have more energy as I don't have to train as much as I was, I am less fatigued on a daily basis."
But it wasn't just about the numbers. My mindset started to shift too.
"Awesome. 0 insecurities now."
February 2024I wasn't constantly anxious about my progress. I wasn't obsessing over every rep. I was just... training.
"I absolutely love training. Best thing I ever did."
October 2025But progress is rarely a straight line. While I had those early breakthroughs where my confidence was through the roof, the reality of a three-year journey means old ghosts sometimes creep back in.
There were physical setbacks — injuries to my wrists, shoulders, forearms, and hamstrings. And when the physical progress stalled, the mental struggles returned too.
"Dysmorphic again today gg."
December 2025
"I just think I don't look as good as I did a year ago."
March 2026Life also got in the way. Relationship stress. Work stress. Being a dad. Running a business on the side. There were times when training felt like one more heavy expectation to manage, not something I was doing for myself.
"Absolutely. Working 12 hours a day atm."
"Always firing mentally 24/7 yes. Always got things to be thinking about in the back of the mind."
June 2026But every time I hit one of these lows, Dariusz was there. He didn't judge me for having a bad week. Instead, he'd remind me of the data, showing me the objective progress I was making even when my brain told me otherwise. He'd adjust my program around my injuries, dial back the volume when I was stressed, and never once made me feel like I was failing.
By 2026, I'd been training with Dariusz for a long time. I was making progress, but something was still off. I was tired. Flat. Burned out. Even though my numbers were going up, I didn't feel right.
Dariusz called it.
"I hear you mate. So from what I gather, your whole nervous system is always primed for action, the constant thinking about doing, fragmented sleep and flatness/fatigue are classic symptoms of too much adrenaline being released constantly, that flatness is essentially a crash from it all. Caffeine can work but long term the cycle you're in will probably lead to a bigger burnout."
June 2026He was the first coach — the first person, really — who seemed to understand that my plateau wasn't just about the weights. It was about the way I was living my entire life. Always on. Never resting. Slowly running myself into the ground.
He introduced a new system. A recovery system. Not just "take a day off," but a structured approach to down-regulating my nervous system. It would look at my recovery as a skill, just like squats or deadlifts.
"If after the 3 months you don't feel the recovery work is actually moving the needle — more energy, better gym performance, less of that flat feeling — I'll refund the full £150. No questions."
That's when I knew he believed in what he was offering.
"Yhyh sure."
June 2026Once we dialed in the volume and recovery, all my weights went up significantly across the board.
The numbers started speaking for themselves:
Military Press: I went from struggling with 55kg to pushing 60kg for 8 reps, and eventually hitting a massive 77.5kg.
Squats: Smashed a 135kg x 4 Barbell Squat Personal Best, and pushed my Smith Hack Squat up to 120kg for deep, quad-building reps.
Dumbbell Press: Pushing 40kg+ on shoulder press and 48kg on chest press.
But it wasn't just the strength. I had gone from a plateaued 77.7kg to sitting at a lean 85.5kg. The physical changes were so drastic that other people in the gym actively started noticing.
I went from feeling stagnant and hiding under hoodies to getting direct compliments on my shoulders.
On one upper body day, I even told Dariusz that I ended up doing extra cable volume while sharing a machine with two older guys simply because I "wanted to show off" and "looked so good". At times, the weight I was moving and the amount of people staring actually felt "weird" and "embarrassing".
The progress was so explosive that Dariusz himself had to do a double-take. After I sent over progress pictures showing my new quad separation and upper body definition, he messaged me asking:
"What gear you running haha"
My response?
"Does it look like gear 🤣🤣🤣... Tren 🤣"
(Obviously a joke)When we stepped back and looked at the data — packing on nearly 8kg of raw lean tissue in roughly a year — Dariusz admitted that making those kinds of gains as an intermediate lifter is exactly what gets you "round accusations all the time".
I was 100% natural, but my results looked engineered.
"Awesome. 0 insecurities now... I absolutely love training. Best thing I ever did."
"I ask very technical questions that would sometimes contradict the facts. Dariusz always puts 110% effort into every explanation and backs his knowledge with scientific evidence which is incredibly impressive."
Three years. Most people quit coaches after a few months. I stayed because he treated me like a whole person, not just a program.
"Dariusz changes my future workouts if I miss anything at all so that I don't fall behind with my progress."
And when he saw that the real barrier wasn't my training, but my life, he built a whole new system to address it. That's not standard practice. That's coaching at a deeper level.
"You can do whatever you like with me lad I don't mind."
June 2026"I have 0 doubt that Dariusz knows exactly how to build muscle, and therefore applies his science to my workouts every day."
August 2024Looking back at the last three years, the biggest lesson I've learned is that a plateau isn't a personal failure — it's just a signal that something needs to shift.
I used to think the answer was always to grind harder, never miss a workout, push to absolute failure, and ignore the fatigue. I did all of that, and I still couldn't break through.
The right coach doesn't just hand you a new workout split. They change how you see your training and your life. Dariusz gave me the science, the accountability, and the actual tools to recover. He did it over three years, adapting and evolving with me through injuries, life stress, and burnout.
If you're stuck where I was — grinding hard but going nowhere — just know you don't have to stay there. You don't need to destroy yourself to make progress; you just need the right approach.
Let's fix your training and your recovery.
